The tongue like a sharp knife…

The tongue like a sharp knife…

Note. This is a collected poem. The opening is a quote from Buddha, much of it is made up of quotes from the Dalai Lama. The rest, for what it’s worth, is mine.
The tongue like a sharp knife…
Kills without drawing blood
Wise words are worth having but
Words need to be controlled
Self-control
Self-restraint
Choose your words with care
For you cannot predict their affect
Be kind whenever possible.
It is always possible
Happiness is not something ready made.
It comes from your own actions.
Find hope in the darkest of days
And focus in the brightest.
Do not judge the universe
If you can, help others;
If you cannot do that, at least do not harm them.
The purpose of our lives is to be happy
If you want others to be happy,
Practice compassion.
If you want to be happy,
Practice compassion.
Take your rest when ever you can
Remember that the only temple that you need
Is your body
When the body is tired, sleep
Sleep is the best meditation
And when you wake…
…remember, take care what might slip
From your spiked and vicious tongue
Coated with honey, a barb is still a barb
