The Game’s Afoot

The Game’s Afoot

The game’s a-foot Dear chap!
But there’s little enough meat
On the foot
So bring me a roast haunch
With a juniper sauce
Bring me whole fowls
And game pies
Bring me a saddle of hare
With a dressed salmon to start
Lay my board with
Savoury delights
That set the mouth to drool
Let me dive in like a half-starved fool
Call my pals and announce the feast
Venison
Pheasant
And a Partridge or two
Quails eggs
And Rabbit legs
Add a bowl of prawns
And a dressed crab or three
Three dozen oysters
Just for me!
Lay my board with a Victorian spread
Lashings of butter on fresh baked bread
Bring me trout
And cockles too
And jellied eels
(for the common touch)
Bring me a sole with the bones taken out
And, my dear Watson, when you just think
I’m done
Bring me a fresh lobster on a cold plate!
Iain
