April 2015 PAD – Day 8: Perception is Truth

On this day, April 8th 1973, the great Pablo Picasso died. This poem is inspired by one of his famous quotes.

Perception is Truth
“Everything you can imagine is real” Pablo Picasso

all that you see
and all that you feel
the hours you lose
the moments you steal
the dreams that you cherish
the nightmares that haunt
the pats on the back
the cold vicious taunts
those singing your praises
those running you down
the smile of a close friend
the same friend’s frown
they say it’s your fault
you’re sure that it is
but you’re not to blame
the fault is all his
the horrors of now
the hopes of tomorrow
the laughter of joy
the cold tears of sorrow
all wrapped together
leaving no further clue
of how to escape
of what you should do
until a light shining
awakens your soul
and what was once broken
now becomes whole
and all that you feel
and all that you see
is clear and simple
empowered and free
the chrysalis lies broken
the wings are unfurled
the sunlight warms through
the newborn uncurled
lies and deceit fallen away
the truth shining through
your love for yourself
and my love for you
