Japanese Graffiti

 

Daubed by the door,
by a quick eye
and a clever hand,
in bright red paint;
adorning, guarding
and announcing
the entrance to
the quiet house
of a quiet man.
The poet spend hours,
days, sometimes months
reading, absorbing,
digesting the words
of epic poems,
each sixty stanzas or more,
until finally he has the point:
the heart, the essence,
the soul at the centre
of it all and then
it seventeen syllables
each resounding in rhyme
he enlightens the poor
of mind and awakens
new hopes and dreams
in all that pass by his door.
